Clearwing Hummingbird Moth

It is very exciting to see a newcomer to the garden, but almost more so to see one returning.

I had a visit from a clearwing hummingbird moth recently,

and thought perhaps it was just passing through.  (See “Flying Visitors“).  So you can imagine my delight when he (or another relative) came back yesterday.  Of course, once again he came during a bit of rough weather.  We were gearing up for a storm and the winds were becoming very gusty.  Branches swayed to and fro repeatedly on my butterfly bush as I tried to focus on this tiny creature.  I am so glad to find that I managed to get a half-dozen or so decent shots out of the many I took.  I hope you enjoy my efforts and share in my excitement!

Hummingbird Moth — See its wings blend into the flower?

These moths fly very fast, move quickly, so it is a real challenge to catch up with them, or to even notice them on a plant!

Great picture, this moth is hard to photograhy at the best of time, and it was a windy day.
