Our cardinal visitors usually feast on seeds spilled out of feeders by other birds. During a recent snowstorm, I noticed Ms Cardinal sitting in the fresh snow on the nearby tree, looking and waiting, apparently trying to decide how to proceed to get the treats that beckoned her.
Next thing I knew, she was flying onto this suet feeder to get a special taste of suet and seeds. This isn’t easy for a cardinal to do, and as she clung to the suet, she seemed to have trouble holding on, fluttering wings several times.
She persevered and enjoyed a few morsels before losing her grip and flying away.
