The past several summers have brought a variety of flying visitors to my yard, ones other than the birds, that is. They bring more variety of color and behave quite differently than the birds, of course, and are quite a bit more difficult to approach for photographing. I like the challenge of getting close enough to “shoot” them without frightening them off.
I believe this is a "Baltimore Checkerspot"

Beautiful photos of the butterfly’s, they do have some wonderful pattern’s across their wings. I have never heard of the hummingbird moth before, he is a rather strange looking character. 🙂
magsx2 — Thank you for your comments. The hummingbird moth is a rather elusive visitor. So far, I’ve only see them that one year, a couple of different days, and then never came back that I’ve seen. Very fast moving, too, and at a quick glance, you might think it is a bird.
