First thing this morning, I opened a window to see what our weather was like. The weatherman promised warmer temperatures, so I was pleased to find that was so. The big surprise was the cacophony of birds outside this morning. Spring is definitely in the air.
The first I noticed was the cackling of the pileated woodpecker and an answering call that seemed to be from another — a possible mate?
Then, a cardinal’s call, distinctive and clear, came to my ears. The others all blended together — finches, chickadees, etc., and it was almost overpowering.
Another recent visit from the female pileated woodpecker (I wish she would entice her mate to come to the feeder). I wonder what that mysterious eye sees.
A nuthatch shows off, climbing upside down on the feeder.
